			<description><![CDATA[ I was preparing my Aphaenogaster colony I&#39;ve had since May for hibernation when I made a disturbing discovery. I had removed the lid to add some water to
their nest when I found what I thought was the queen dead. Disappointed I got prepared to dig through the remaining colony to remove all the brood to give to
my other Aphaenogaster colony. Before I moved one spoon full of sand I removed the plastic cap I keep the wet cotton ball in. Much to my surprise there was the
queen alive and well.... ]]></description>

On the weekend I found some queen ants at the beach when I was on holiday (picture below).
<br>
First I want to ask, since I had about 4 days left until I got home to put them into an antfarm, was the best way for me to keep them alive to fill the jar
with dirt (which I did and they made a nest), or just keep them in an empty jar like the picture?

Secondly, now that I am home I want to move them into an ant farm, but I assume I can only take one of the queens into the... ]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[ New test tubes and queens [ large photos ] ]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[ Thought I would post this seeing as I have been asked this by people in the past.

I wanted to purchase some test tubes but only knew of a USA company that sent them. I originally purchased 20 tubes 150mm x 20mm. They are good for my sugar
queens but way to big for my Iridomyrmex queens.

So I found a local company that sells 100mm x 13mm tubes - which is a perfect size, but because they sell to labs mostly it was large pack. So I had to

			<description><![CDATA[ I&#39;ve read Robert A. Johnson&#39;s Notes from Underground on Pogonomyrmex. He notes some species are fully claustral while others are obligate foragers
during the founding stage. However, he doesn&#39;t list whether <span style="font-style: italic;">Pogonomyrmex subdentatus</span> is fully or semi claustral.
I&#39;ve tried giving my queens a few Kentucky Blue Grass seeds, but they move them to the opposite end of the test tube and ignore them. ]]></description>

			<title><![CDATA[ new hatchery ]]></title>

			<description><![CDATA[ Decided to try to use aac block as a hatchery for the ants, and used a deli cup lid for the plastic front.

here are some pics

for moisture i have a paper towel under it that i soak in water which is nicely absorbed by the block,  so i never have to worry about changing water.
<br>
for feeding i use a syringe that can easily penetrate the plastic, to feed it honey water,  for solids i just remove the cotton and drop it in there.

			<description><![CDATA[ Hey gang, Im back from Kauai and I have some pictures I would like to share. The Hawaiian islands are not home to any native ants..but there are a number of
introduced species and the only type of ant i was able to identify was a solenopsis species, the others were strange to me. I ran into a small almost medium
sized black ant that had long legs and was quick on its feet. The pictures of these did not come out as well as i thought...but the others came out great. Take
a look.

			<description><![CDATA[ Well, call me weak willed, but after two failed attempts, I just can&#39;t bare to try to keep ants. I love the miraculous little buggers, but I hate watching
a queen die helpless to do anything about it. So I&#39;m turning to a more understood (and profitable) social insect, my second love, the honeybee. It&#39;s a
