Should the chat forum (not room) be removed?

This forum has the least activities, and it is very rare we get anyone chatting in the chat room even if people make appointments. Since the forum list is already long, maybe this forum should be axed.

Ant Species related songs/phrases.

I was thinking the other day about what songs or phrases particular ant species would vocalise in their everyday work.

For example;

Watching 2 of my colonies I would say that Formica fusca would walk around saying, "I want no trouble mate!" as these ants appear to run from danger.

Whereas my Myrmica rubras seem to strutt around singing, "You're going to get your ******* head kicked in!"

Anybody have any views on what other species would...

Since all citronella ants seem to smell the same (to our noses anyway), would they not fight if mixed together with workers from another colony?

Yes I know. Hard question to answer.

I am pretty sure I have Formica fusca or lemani. Would anyone happen to have heard life expectancy of their queens? I have been searching all over the net and in books but have no figures.

Any guestimates?

One of this years projects I have made for myself is to attempt and introduce a 2nd queen to my colony. The nest I caught them in in the wild had multiple queens so I know they can live that way... Who knows if I can get them to...

the Image Host software has reached a level where it is necessary to ask some questions about it's future features.

now you can give a comment, Genus Name and category name to each uploaded picture.

fun

is it necessary to have more features or will it only complicate things?

Silk use in Formica?

I noticed it only mentioned Jerusalem crickets, silk-spinning crickets, and millipedes. Were there any new ant species?

Categorization for the Image Host? Give Genus Name!

i thought about some new features for the image host.

maybe it would be good and useful to categorize the uploaded ant images. for example: genus name, species name or where the specimen was found etc.
to browse the images by genus or by species.
so for example i could see all lasius images.

but for the categorization and data structure i will need myrmecological support.

i would like to do that because as the images are growing in number it will be more difficult...

I was thinking we could broaden the scope of the Journal/Diary/Log Message Forum. We could include every thing regarding the keeping of ants:
1. building ant farms
2. feeding your ants
3. fluon, etc.

Here is how it is described now:

Journal/Diary/Log Message Forum
This forum contains people's journals/diaries/logs on raising their ant colonies. You can discuss about the entries.

Here is a rough draft of a possible new definition. We can fix the wording...
