Hay everyone, this looks like a fun thing. I believe you're contributing to science too. Basically you sign up at their site, they send you either a sunflower or a packet of sunflowers, and then report when they ask how long it takes for 5 bees to visit the flower(s). In April I put out two nesting blocks for native bees to nest in. Finally last week a few decided to move in. The bees are solitary but like to nest next to one another. I found this little guy on my arm after taking the dog for a long walk and when i grabbed him he either bit me or stung me , I'm unsure which but I'm pretty sure beetles cant sting. I'm curious to find out what he is as i noticed his color pattern was really quite impressive. I'm fairly new to the east coast and I'm seeing alot of insects this spring that I've never seen before.
