I am new to starting an ant colony, but I've had a lifelong interest in ants.

I am planning on making an ant farm, based on Chuck's two-jar system. I was wondering, so that I don't need to expose my ants to light while viewing
them in the nest, is it practical/safe to replace the foil/black material with a red-tinted adhesive vinyl / contact? If I was unable to find red, would a
magenta work the same way, or is it on too different a wavelength to be...

My name is Renan and I`ve always been an ant enthusiast. Always wanted to craft an ant farm for myself but never had the know-how for it, thought it was really
complex and all so ended up abandoning the idea, until I recently watched ALL the movies posted byAntsCanada on Youtube and got inspired by his Tetramorium
colony on a pumice stone. So, I decided to do the same.

Which kind of dirt is best used, as to ensure very low collapsing risk? I find vast numbers of different dirt-types, and

do not know which would be best.

Also, could it be an idea to fill the bottom with a fine layer of granulate covered with a sheet of sorts, to allow excess
