Hey everyone!

I just caught a colony, queen, and brood included, of Tapinoma sessile.

I stuck them in a tupperware container with a test tube inside, with a tube connecting to a foraging area. They settled in very quickly. I also set up a light to shine on part of the bin to warm it up. I have a thick red sweatshirt over it, too.

I fed them some sugar water in a cotton ball, and a couple of dead grasshoppers.
Well, since it was raining a bit Monday, I decided to take a trip to the park to see if the messor nest was up to anything. The rain by then, 3:00pm. had died down to occasional sprinkles so the ants were busy foraging. I also took this opportunity to try out some grass seeds I bought earlier, they seem to like it. I then followed them back to their two nest entrances, one of which was covered by a small rock the size of an average fist. Long story short, I flipped the rock and saw numerous...

There was also an incident where the ants placed the cocoons above the nest and set up a safe guard zone. Very interesting. I am also in the current experiment of red light. Question being can ants see red light? Well Ive covered my formicary with red cellophane (below sand level) doesn't seam to bother the ants that much. But getting to the point.
