Hello! I'm new to this and currently don't even have any ants. I've researched a lot on common species in my area (Ohio) and am getting ready to order my formicarium and other equipment so I'll be ready for the nuptial flights in the summer. I know, after research, that a very common species around here is F. fusca. I was wondering if this species is a good one to start out with for someone new to this? Does anyone have any tips as far as heating, feeding, lighting? My formicarium will be attached to an outworld, my my ants will have that simulation of being outside. Should that be lighted at all? I'm trying to get it all set up and ready now so all I have to do is catch a gravid queen in the summer. Also for the new queens, is test tube rearing better than just putting her in the formicarium? I mean, from the time I catch her until the next summer, does she stay in the tube? Thanks to anyone who helps answer my questions!
