I caught a Camponotus queen about mid-March. I'm in Amarillo, TX. Not sure of the species, and I just moved, so I don't have my camera just yet. However, I do have the basic information for a possible list of suspects. She's not a huge Camponotus, and the colonies are complete wood nesters. They are always in a tree cavity, and never anywhere near the soil. I don't know the exact length, but I'm guessing she's around 8-10 mm in length. Her head and thorax are red. and the gaster is black. Thanks for any suggestions.
