The only ants I have seen in Alameda CA are Argentine ants, Linepithema humile. I took these photos yesterday while walking along the Bayshore Trail:Someone dropped pink sugar (maybe cotton candy) and the beasts had a feast.H

A shame, as you say, that there's been no recent published follow-up as to the present status of the species in Ghent.Here in England, neglectus is so far recorded (as far as I know, anyway) from two widely-separated outdoor sites (stately gardens in mid-west England, and - possibly - on blocks of plant-covered tufa, imported from Italy, stored in the S.Midlands) where it has obviously started from imported plant material, and also from botanic garden hothouses in Cambridge, where I've personally seen it. At the first site, it seems to have been present for ca. 30 years, yet is still confined to the ornamental and plant sales areas, not spreading to the open countryside, which is reassuring.
