As somewhat expected, not everything went as quickly as we had hoped for. The website will not be live until next week at this point. It could have gone up this week, but key features would have been missing so we opted for a full launch instead of adding updates the first week. Sorry to those of you waiting on this to go live for your ordering, but I assure you you do not have to wait! We can get started on your orders now, and it is simply a few emails to get the process completed.

The link below is one of our first videos, and I thought it would be helpful to link with so many on the forums looking for ways to start their own colony. This video covers some ways to go about finding your own Camponotus queen, particularly in a woodland environment.  There are plenty of other species you can find using the same techniques as well.

Just wanted to share what I know about the website at this point. The final, final touches should be made today. There is still plenty more to add after the site goes live, but most of it is just details. The bulk of the fixes are already in, and I expect this to be up and running no later than Thursday. I am relieved it is finally almost ready, but there is still so much work to do. Not only am I spending tons of time fine tuning existing products, but I have been on the lookout constantly for new products that will enhance everyones ant keeping experience through Tar Heel Ants. I am planning on adding a whole line of heating pads and cables in the next couple of weeks. Getting that set up has been a little tougher than I anticipated. Most of them are used to people having a store front (one day!), and there are extra hoops and hurldles to deal with if you do not. If it is not one thing, it has been another throughout this process of getting everything up and running.

There will be a photo gallery on the website. This is not only for Tar Heel Ants to show product photos and designs (instead of me emailing them out to everyone like I have been), but this will also be for everyone to send in their own photos so we can all find them in one place.

I hope this thread will continue, and not fizzle out after the site goes live. Email contact will be less now than when thingswere done only by using email. That part has been alot of fun getting to know many of you, and I hope you all stay in touch! One thing I have learned is the full wealth of knowledge and interest in ant keeping (and ants in general) that frequents this forum is not fully on display here. So many people simply read the forums, yet rarely post! This has taught me that regardless of how many people respond to a post, sharing what you have learned and the things you observe is vital to all of us learning how to improve the lives of our pets and those who put up with our love for ants.

The issue about advertising on this forum has come up time and again, but only by a very few (at least that have spoken up). Hopefully, as they see more and more people come to the yuku forums here as a result of my efforts to market the hobby (and yes, a business), the resistance will diminish. I hope my efforts to promote Tar Heel Ants never gets in the way of me being seen as anyone other than someone who joined this forum to learn more about ants and how to better keep them as pets.

I will be spending alot of time working on getting the site to where it needs to be for awhile as far as content, new products, layouts, and blog articles. I hope some of you will add to the site content from time to time. Let there be no mistake, this website was created for all present and future ant keepers. It is an extension of your thoughts and interests, and everything I have learned in the past two years since starting this journey.

So, when Tar Heel Ants is live later this week, that is not the end result by any means. The end, literally in this case, is only the beginning.

Silly ants! I have a colony of Camponotus chromaiodes I am doing the same thing with right now for a friend. I tried a civil discussion with them, hopefully some results will follow. Time usually wins out in these matters.
