Been sometime since I posted a thread in this sub-forum!
Anyway, I found a queen tonight. I opened the white fluorescent light in the garden. I knew there would be some alates flying, since it's been raining heavily on and off for the past 2 weeks.
She was on top of the car, all alone sitting there. Searched around for males but only found a few of some different species. She didn't try to fly away when I tried to catch her, so I think she's mated. I'm going to let her rest since I think she had enough stress for one day.
- Caught at Penang, Malaysia.
- 14 mm long ( without wings )
- Black. No other color.
- The head shape looks weird.
I'll let the pictures tell the rest. I have a guess right now, but it's just a wild guess. Camponotus sp. ( truncatus group ).
The white patch is not the eye!!! It's just a dust on the lens or on the test tube. The eye is the black spot behind the white speck.
