Today I was discussing the integration of ant parasites into ant society's through the use of chemical mimicry with a cover teacher in my maths class. In her fascination with the topic she asked 'Cant they just see its not an ant with their eyes as they have vision?'. I thought this was a very good question and one which I could not answer. I thought that If an ant was to go by vision alone it would not be able to tell the difference between ants of the same species but of a different colony so I'm guessing that they have evolved merely to use chemical recognition. Does anybody have an answer for this they could give me?
