So, I've decided to start a journal for my three Lasius alienus queens. Hopefully this one will be better than my last one (I finally learned how to crop pictures).
My three queens were all caught between July and August. I named the first one I caught Lucky, because she literally landed on top of my dad's car while he was driving! So far, she's living up to her name, as she has 2 nanitics already. Unfortunately, I probably won't be keeping her because I put her in a dirt setup. Surprisingly, the dirt hasn't molded at all. Here's a pic of her brood. You can't really see the queen or the nanitics since they've hidden themselves in a "dark pocket" of the chamber.
My second queen is named Snail Girl. That's because, despite the fact that she was caught only a week after lucky, her largest brood are still medium sized larvae. And the worst part of all this is that she's the queen I'm planning to keep.
Here's a few pics of her in all her slow-motion glory.
My third queen might actually be Lasius neoniger since I caught her last week. I think it's a little late for Lasius alienus to be flying.
I've named her Messy because she doesn't keep her eggs in a pile like my other queens.
You can't really see her eggs in the pic though (they're behind her).
I just realized that my three queens make my desk look really cluttered.
I also decided to share a pic of my cute little budgie.
Well, there's not much more to say at the moment, so enjoy!
