Hey everyone. I was hoping you could help me out with an idea. I found what I believe to be 3 queens. I've taken pictures of two, but can't get either camera to take a good macro. So I'll provide a description to fill in some blanks. I live in upper South Carolina. The three all seem to be the same species. One in the test tube has one wing left and it doesn't look like the pic I saw of a fire ant queen I saw on google, though we have a lot around here. The ants are approx the half the size of a dime. They have two small segments between the thorax and abdomen. THey are a redish brown color on their head, thorax, and the first wide part of their abdomen. Then it appears that there are 3-4 stripes that alternate between black and the reddish-brown color. Their abdomens are roughly tear drop shaped. I heard that some ants have abdomens that are a little wavy and get bigger and smaller kind of randomly, but not these. It grows from the small waist to the biggest part and uniformly tapers down. Let me know if you need any more description. I'll post the pics I have below. They are a little fuzzy though.
