The first ant was collected last Friday in Peabody, MA. I was doing landscaping and disturbed the soil near the nest and ~30 of them came out and were aggressive. Upon further investigation I also noticed lots of queens both with wings and without. The ant is 3.75mm-4mm in length and the queens are around 5mm.
This ant was collected in Dover, MA. I think it's just a Temnothorax curvispinosus queen, but I would still like a confirmation. Also how does one tell the difference between T. curvispinosus and T. ambiguus queens?
Collected in the Middlesex Fells Reservation. I've had trouble using the key in A Field Guide to the Ants of New England to ID this ant.
