Ah! Life is so wonderfully busy right now!
The latest news is that I am scheduled to be featured on Animal Planet. They're doing a show on backyard pets and will be coming to my place from May 22-29th to shoot a feature story on myself, The AntsCanada Ants Store, random ant keeping activities, and of course my various ant colonies. They even want to film me performing my ant song that I wrote for an up coming record. I was on the phone with the producers in MA yesterday, and they were unbelievably fascinated by the hobby! We were on the phone for almost an hour talking about ants. Should be fun! Yay! Ant love is spreading!
That's all for now. We will keep you posted on details.

I admit, I am a bit of a "noob" when it comes to caring for ant colonies, but I am a fast learner and I have a genuine interest for anting.Anyways, I have a ripe ant colony that I am about to capture in the back yard. I would like to capture the colony, and then sort through the population until I find the queen. Should I extract the queen and place it into the pumice starter kit, or should I place the queen about about 20 workers into the formicarium? Thanks for any advice.

It was so much fun, they shot all day, and they were just amazed at how much detail there was to both shoot (they had the most amazing macro lenses!) and learn.I basically talked about how The AntsCanada Ants Store started, why we felt there was a need for pro ant keeping products, brief backgrounder of our products, ants as pets, ant biology, ants and ecology, ant-related legalities, and even talked about my entertainment business stuff and they got me to sing a few bars of my 'ant song' on my upcoming record. I did some tutorials, e.g. how to do a test tube setup, moving a colony into a nest, etc. I took them through my room and showed them my own personal colonies. The best segment of the day was looking for Camponotus queens with kids. Overall, the production was totally intrigued and the show producer flew back to US last night. I feel Ant love is about to strike harder! The episode is set to air late Fall this year on Animal Planet. We will keep you posted as to exact airing details. Here are some photos of the day... Enjoy! ...
