Here some video that i made yesterday in Brasil.
Fire ants nuptial flight
A LOT of queens, but almost all of them with wings.
But i could find some queens without wings, so i took them and place them in test tube.
I found about 20 or more queens with no wings.
Now i got some questions :
1-)Can all these queens who were without wings are fertilized ?
I did not see the queen mates in the air, just found them near the nest without wing,
and also found it strange because I saw no male around.
2-)After I put the queens in test tubes, they doesn`t stay still, always trying to scape from the test tube.
They shoud slow down and start to lay eggs right ??
Despite being wingless queens, I believe they are not fertilized.
Obs : I put in some test tube 2 or 3 queens together for trying to make a big colony, but i put some queens alone too.
Obs 2 : sorry for the poor quality of the video, but I took several bites trying to capture the queen and did not want to take more bites filming.
Damn fire ants,,,, sting hurts a lot...
