I’ve read a great deal on eating insects. It is said to be the future replacement for the normal kind of meat most of us eat nowadays. Ants are eaten many places in the world already, but it is really difficult to keep an open mind to this – I think. However, I did try and ate a couple of (small) ants to get an idea of the taste. So far I’ve tested Lasius fuliginosus and Lasius flavus – and eaten them raw. Both tastes a bit like lemon/orange. The taste is very strong though – maybe they should have been fried first. I’d say that I probably prefer the taste of Lasius flavus, and it do look kind of delicious with its yellow colour.
Do any of you guys eat your ants? Any idea what is poisonous/unhealthy and what is not. I might set up a poll to decide which ant species I should taste next…
