You were correct with your Formicinae guess.  Lovely species.  Currently raising two queens and I can't wait for the majors.

Figured I'd add a little info. on the queens in case you were interested in rearing one:

These are a primarily soil-nesting Camponotus that tend to like wooded areas, and nest under rocks.  Check for queens primarily under stones that receive a lot of sunlight in the woods.  I've yet to find a queen under a log, but I've found two smallish colonies nesting in logs before.  The largest colonies tend to stick to the soil, though, it would seem.  You really can't miss the queens if you spot one.  Similar coloration, 15 or so millimeters long, with a thorax about as large as their head, and a gaster even larger.  Yes, they've had their mating flights and right about now is probably when the first workers would be eclosing.  Earlier fliers would already have a few by now, but there's still a good chance at finding some mated queens.
