I watched a fight in a colony of Solenopsis xyloni between Argentine ants and Solenopsis invicta (the xyloni got ganged up on). I saw a large major of the xyloni caste kill at least 13-15 invicta (could have been more, but that is all I saw) before falling to its death in a large man-made hole full of enemy ants. I didn't really see the Argentine ants attack them, most of the battles were underground. This colony of xyloni lived about 2-3 or so months being attacked by Argentine ants and invicta before finally losing the war.
I saw the invicta go up to an xyloni worker and they would crawl on its back and sting it and the major somehow threw it off even against the invicta majors. I always pictured invicta to be better fighters than the xyloni. Although this one major seemed unbeatable until falling into hundreds of ants below.
It was a pretty interesting observation so. So far the Argentine ants have left the Solenopsis invicta alone.
