I would think they would look at something like nutrient flow, or genetics, or whether the workers regularly move from one colony to the other, something like that.

Henchant Posts: 1983 05/02/2002 12:16 AM Doc.	We've got our own Argentine Ant Supercolony in the U.S. that spans from north of San Francisco to New Orleans. This information (a very similar study, also done through extensive fighting trials) came out a couple years ago, but didn't get as much press, I suspect because the researchers were not real media hounds...

Is it possible that some of this diversity could be introduced here in some way as a means of controlling the L. humile population?

Posts: 527 05/02/2002 1:44 PM	Myrmecos1: is fighting trial the method of choice when you try to see if it is not the same colony? do you know how you to do such a fighting trial? when i tried i had the problem the the ant that is put to the other colony usually is so upset that the enemy ants do not care much. a confused ant is not much of a threat. i have also tried to put many ants of different colonies in the same container to look if they fight. but they were more concerned with finding a way to escape so they did not engage in fighting. so what is the proper way to do fighting trials? kuene More Images on this Board. krungkuene.org/ameisen_page/intro.html
