Yesterday, I found three small queens in the bathroom of the office I work. They were crawling on the edge of the window, trying to go outside. All three had wings. beside them there were two more that were already dead.
Weather: Cloudy, around 22 degrees C. A day before a torrential rain went.
Queens length: Approximately 3-4 mm. So, they are pretty small.
So, I caught 3 of them yesterday, and when I reached them tried to put them in test tubes, but unfortunately while trying to handle them gently, two escaped in my home and fall on the ground but I couldn't find them anymore, like they vanished. Even thought they are really small, I thought I could see them. I even used the light from my phone in search for them, but no luck. If they are truly "Ponera coarctata" then I shouldn't worry too much. The colony size is small, so even if they manage to establish in my house I wouldn't have to worry. Maybe I'll even see them scavenging, which would be awesome.
If anyone has any idea of what she could be, please share it with me.
After I put the remaining queen in a test tube, I tried to take some photos of her. They are not the best, but it's still better than nothing. Last 2 are pretty foggy.
"Long live the queen!"
