I have some queens that will be ready to move to formicarium in about 2 months. I have already been creating formicariums. But before I put my ants in there, I have been testing them. When making the formicarium I used plexiglass, mortar, and silicone. I have done some tests from ants outside and most have died. Right now I have a test going on. With the first test I did not wash the mortar but it dried for over a month. I placed about 10 ants in there. All but 2 are dead overnight. That formicarium was small, like the size of your palm. Now in the other formicarium, I put 3 ants. Forgot to say but in both formicariums I put water to hydrate it. The formicarium with 3 ants, we'll all the ants are alive. I am thinking it must be something to do with toxins because in the formicarium with 10 ants, the ants were seen to lose their motor skills. They would climb up the wall and fall. I have another test going on right now in where I put one ant in a test tube with a cotton ball of sugar water and a wet piece of mortar that I used. Can anybody help me find the problem please?
