Now , my most important books you can find in this topic pub8.ezboard.com/fantfarm...=337.topic in my posts 147 ( except # 11 , not in my possession . ) and in my post 160 . But a complete list would be impossible : It includes between 100 and 110 books on ants , between 30 and 40 books on ants that I have copied because you can't find them nowhere any more , over 8600 articles on ants , 26 books on social insects in general , between 20 and 30 books on social insects that I've copied ( same reason as before ! ) , around 20 books on wasps , around ( a guess ! ) 100 articles on wasps , around 45 books on bees ( including some that I've copied ! ) , around ( a guess ! ) 60 articles about bees , around 30 books on Hymenoptera in general , around ( now I must guess because I don't know ! ) 150 to 200 books on insects in general and about groups not mentioned before ( including dragonflies , hoverflies , beetles , ... ) and an uncounted number of articles on other insects ( not so much however , I think around 1000 ! ) . The books are from 1886 till now ( the copied books from 1850 on ! ) , the articles from 1840 till now and I've copied parts of some books as far back as 1810 . That is only my insect literature collection I have personally . So you see , it is impossible to list all this ! And then of course , I also have a lot about ants ( and less about other insects . ) on my computer ( never tried to count this but it includes a lot of articles I couldn't get before and also a lot from on-line-journals like " Florida Entomologist " ) .

I'm mad you know , especially about ants !

Taking a picture of them is also a problem . My wife hates two things at me : ants and books ! So the few ants ( dead ! ) that I still have are behind the closed doors of a small cabinet ( so she can't see them ! ) . My books and articles are another problem . All the articles , all the copies and most books ( not those about ants and those about social insects in general [ because they include also a lot about ants . ] and some others . ) are in carton boxes in a small room . They are piled up in three layers ! So you are nothing with photographs of them ( looks like a banana-shop ! ) . The ant and social insect books ( plus a few special ones ! ) are in two cabinets ( also out of view ! ) . Also not very interesting !

The most special books I have are a two part encyclopedia in French of insects . They are from the hand of a very big French entomologist at that time ! They are dated 1886 ( the oldest books I have ! ) . Combined they count 1500 pages ! Big format , two columns , very small print ! A lot of line drawings ! Now , to show you how much was known about ants , guess how many pages they ( the ants . ) got in it ! What do you think ? 150 pages !!! Or then percent ! And that before Forel , Emery and Santschi started publishing a volont !

The oldest ant book I have is ( copies ! ) the one on Swiss ants from Forel ( 1874 ) , and ( as an original book ! ) W. M. Wheelers classic " Ants " . The most recent insect book I have is , yes , " Fire Ants " of Taber .

The most funny ant book I have is one from a zoo in the Netherlands . They started , at that time , with a colony of Atta sp. . It is a small , little book about that leaf-cutting ant species . But the cover is damaged ! On the cover you see an Atta worker with a leaf fragment going away . And that fragment is the corner of the cover !

All I have about ants I collected since Eastern 1983 ! And I still can't get enough of them !

Oh , Forel 1874 is not the oldest book I copied ! It is the one of Frster , 1850 , about ants ( includes the description of Formica polyctena ! ) . Shame on me to forget that one !
