Posts: 4 01/23/2004 1:40 PM	My only goal is to capture ants and have a good magnification of them , also i whant to capture what i see to my PC, using an USB interface...... ..Or a microscope with some sort of adapter to capture images to PC.. By these mean i would like to know your oppinions about this issue, thanks in advance... In April i will have pics of my first colony, i will wait for that season to catch queens , bye [revised the title] --antdude [moved to ref. keeping ants seemed more appropriate here or in anting ] -Merkava128

It may make a difference which part of the world you live in. I expect different suppliers provide this kind of set-up in North America, Europe and Asia. Anyway, I'll look forward along with you to reading the suggestions that come in...

Phil Ward And Jack Longino have some phenomenal setups, but we're talking big bucks as well. I spent several thousand myself and what I have is barely adequate. What I ended pu with is an older Ao stereo scope. A mitutoyo x y axis stage and two mitutoyo digital micropmeter heads. Cameras then add an whole new facet to the mix. I would check out places like Martin Microscope They specialize in imaging and capture, good people to work with. Posts: 4 01/27/2004 8:18 PM	Which magnification u need to see the smallest of all ants?! 10x, 20x? There are microscopes with starting magnification of 100x...with that type of magnification i wont be able to see the hole ant, only portions of her! Is this true?

Posts: 5364 01/28/2004 9:46 AM Doc.	You need a stereo (binocular) "dissection" microscope with 10-50X, and probably a digital camera mount, too. (Magnification rates may vary a little from these numbers, depending on the manufacturer, but this gives the approximante range available.) With interchangeable ocular lenses, one set twice as strong as the normal, this range can be improved to 20-100X. This is all that is necessary for whole-ant photography. speaking of ant photography, have you seen this thread? pub8.ezboard.com/fantfarm...=381.topic I believe the shots in this thread were shot through a compound microscope, not a dissection microscope.

Young Worker Ant Posts: 41 02/17/2004 10:59 AM Callow Ant	I stumbled today over it! I got a laboratory and a stereo microscope with light conductor. But as i watched the site and looked at the software and pictures i suddenly felt an insistent itching in my money pocket. The USA Price is 800 $. They got some screen savers on their site.
