Posts: 393 07/22/2003 12:10 AM	Hi netodejulilla, Kutter sometimes uses particular terms which are rarely found elsewhere. So: "Pumpmagen" means the gizzard = proventriculus = pumping stomach, between crop and stomach (the latter being the first digesting part of the gut). "Kelchbltter": Are the petals or petal leafs in flowers; in insects it means the sometimes leaf-shaped, usually four chitinous structures around the "calyx", the cup-like first part of the gizzard, named "sepals" by Wheeler (1910). "In Dolichoderus the sepals (Kelchbltter) are lacking, they have only short "Verschlussklappen", closing flaps" (Kutter, p. 170/171). The gizzard is quite well described in W.M. Posts: 5364 02/15/2004 7:49 AM Doc.	Just to be perfectly clear, the Kelchbltter and Verschlussklappen sound like different versions of the same structures, the valves of the proventriculus, the first sepalous and the second merely flap-like. Is this a correct interpretation?
