Posts: 5 08/07/2003 12:24 PM	Hello antfarm folk... Quick question...what do y'all use for semi-longterm storage of specimens? I've come to loath the glass screw-cap vials that do not hold alcohol for more than a month or so, IF they remain upright. I think maybe plastic would be better either with stoppers or snap-tops, or maybe just more intelligently designed caps. Bioquip and carolina don't appear to carry anything like this but I know they exist. Any help/ideas/links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mred

Henchant Posts: 1983 08/07/2003 2:52 PM Doc.	Two suggestions. 1. 3 ml Rubber stopper glass Vacutainer tubes. They are cheap, hold alcohol really well, but can be fragile. 2. Sarstedt 2 ml screw-cap microcentrifuge tubes. More expensive, but very durable and hold alcohol for a long time if the rubber seal is clean.

I total avoid the rubber stopper vials, I have found that something in or on the rubbers causes crystals to grow on the specimens when you mount them. I use either screw cap vials with inserts from Bioquip or small glass tubes stoppered with cotton inserted into larger jars of alcohol.
