Hi,
I started this thread more positively, but apart from Aka ArtAnt (thanks AAA) I have not had much response to my concerns so I thought I would try sounding more desperate. I hope you don't mind!
Hiya,
I'm so excited!!! Today (5th January) I saw the first callow worker just after it "hatched" from pupae. It was so awkward and its legs were at weird angles, but I had to get some sleep so I didn't know if it went "normal" after that. They have since been out of sight. It was so cute & the queen was hovering attentively.

Hello,
Not so excited! Five days gone & I had not seen the callow ant again till earlier today (10th January), and it still seemed to have legs at strange angles. I was able to get a better look & to my dismay I found that one rear leg was missing & the two center legs on both sides are pointing straight up. It was able to drink honey with my help, but obviously things are not right! The queen is still hovering around until I shine light onto them.
Tonight (11th January)I can now see another callow with legs also pointing straight up.
Hi,
Tonight (12th January) both the callows appear to have died, & I am yet to sight the queen.
Could the queen done this to them or could I have done something wrong???
These callows have taken since mid August to develop from eggs, and for this to happen is a real let-down for me...not to mention their Mummy. She has only just last week laid a new batch of eggs, and I don't want this to happen again if I can help it!!!
