This is my first post on this forum and I'm looking for some advice. I have what I suspect is a Camponotus maculatus queen caught in Egypt. She has settled down and started laying eggs, but doesn't appear to be taking care of them. I'm thinking of offering her a Camponotus ligniperda pupa to see whether she will adopt it (and hopefully, the worker that emerges will take care of the eggs).
I've had some success with this with Lasius species, but have never tried it with Camponotus. Has anyone out there had any success or failure with this?
Thanks,
MattG

They took to pupa of their own species a lot better. Although I think they may have killed a few of the same species callows anyways.
