Hello, i did a search for medium, soil, gravel on the boards here and nothing turned up so i decided to start a general thred on mediums used for ants. and add my question regarding what medium is most commonly regarded as "ideal" for east coast soil dwelling ant's. i have used sand in the past but I'm not a fan of it simply because over time it leaves a residue like film on the glass that nothing will remove and clouds visibility i believe its some type of mineral deposits leeching out of the sand over time, i also tried gravel and had more success with this cause it can be kept dryer with out the risk of tunnel collapses, but there are many types of gravel's and i was also wondering if there is other substances that i could try such as perlite and how the ants would react to it, i like perlite cause its light weight an doesn't seem to stain the glass. can any one suggest some medium types for forest and garden dwelling ants on the eat coast near new york, some types i commonly run into are myrm, lasius, t cae.
thanks in advance.
