Ever since I've have been a small child I have been fascinated with ants. Their ability to drag things long distances twice the size of me has always fascinated me, hence my screen name! =) I live in the Lake County region of Illinois. I am not a hard-core ant enthusiast, I just enjoy pbserving them go about their business. I have come across (what are to me, anyways)very cool but strange moments, because I don't under stand what is going on.
I have noticed that a lot of ants make their home under rocks in the garden. Almost ebery single time I go to investigate, the underside of the rocks are COVERED with different sized eggs.The ground is also covered too. Is the Queen the only(member?)that lays eggs? Why are they laid OUTSIDE the nest and not inside? Are there any other Queens? Does she ever come out? Is there a King? To an experienced "anter," these may or maynot be taken as stupid ?'s for the members here. I don't know too much about this, and there is soooo much to read through on here it is QUITE overwhelming.
