I have searched through Google and couldn't find much. I found a nest of these ants but can't tell if I have wingless males or queens. They are larger than the regular worker ants and hide a lot.
Actually, I am not sure if they are Cardiocondyla ants so here is a description. I live in Southern California in San Diego.
Workers: 3.0 or so MM long. They have a light brown thorax and a bluish or light black colored abdomen and head. The abdomen seems to be pointed also. They are small ants, not as small has Pheidole ants so.
The "queen" of what I believe to be the queen is 3.5-3.7 MM long, not much bigger than the workers really. She seems to be a darker colored than the workers and are wingless. The nests are very shallow, I found some eggs what I believe to be the queens and a lot of ants just less than half an inch down. The nest is very shallow. It was also 5 MM away from an Argentine ant nest which gives you an idea of how small these ants are and how brave they are.
I think I asked for an ID on them awhile ago but honestly can't remember.
