Invasive species are one of the most serious environmental threats. I expect they will be responsible for the extinction of at least tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of species by the time things settle down. Ants are among the worst, especially when they come into contact with isolated islands where the biota have not evolved to deal with ant predation. Hawaii is having similar problems with the Argentine ant and Pheidole megacephala. There are no native ants on Hawaii, and so the native fauna has no defenses against them. Its much worse there even than where the fire ants are taking over the Southeast U.S. At least the native U.S. arthropods have some evolutionary history in contact with predaceous ants, if not fire ants.
