I have asked the question in my Journal, pub8.ezboard.com/fantfarm...D=36.topic but I wanted to post it here in case there are people who do not read the journals. Plus, I think it merits its own topic.
My Formicas have begun taking small pieces of clay from the foraging area into the nest. They give this to the larvae and the larvae seem to be spinning their silk on it instead of using it to make cocoons.
I fear they are trying to find a way to hide themselves. By building their own substrate. Up to now they are taking the silk and clay back to the waste area of the foraging area so maybe this is wrong.
Any one have any ideas as to why they would do this?
Here is a picture of it.

Thanks for the ideas.
