Ok, I ordered my pogo's a few years ago from Arizona. I have kept a heat mat under a 30 - 40 gallon tank during the winter months and a 150 metal halide light above. I have had it outside in the summer (the tank has plenty of holes in the bottom for the rain the drain out) I raised them for 2yrs & have wanted to let them build a large enough empire before letting them go into the wild to see if they could survive in the PA area. Well, I carefully took the tank (with the help of my brother) to an open feild and dug a hole deep enough to put the tank in up to the top.I left a towl half way in and half way out of the tank and a rock on the towl so it woudn't blow away and they could come and go from the tank.
I would go back once in a while to drop off plenty of nijer seeds for them and cat food to help them out at first. I recently went back there after not seing them for the entire winter. After a full year now - all of the pogo's have left the tank and I was not sure if they had made it through this past winter.
Well - I have found where they have relocated by pure lock. I left cat food out and a hand full of nijer seeds. There where a few ants hanging around that where ALL Pogo's (I know because I had them for 2yrs). Any way, I followed one that had a seed and it was about a 10 to 15 minute follow before I didn't need to follow anymore. I saw at first a few more and then dozens and then the whole they where going in and out of. It was AMAZING - they had not only made it through the winter, they now looked a bit faster and far more healthier then when I had them.
I go back to them anytime I get a chance and it seems that there are more and more each time out there. I still give them cat food and seeds of all kinds when I can. I am doing this again real soon - I ordered a colony of the same that has about 200 already. I will build another empire but it takes about a full year or two - keep you in the loop -
