Hey everyone,
Today while I was out in my backyard I happened to come upon a full scale battle between two different ant colonies. I'm not sure about the names of the species but one was a dark maroon colour with a light red thorax while the other species was the typical light brown/reddish ants you often see on pavements.
Anyways, there was a bunch of dead ants all over the place but what intrigued me the most was that both species of ants were carrying live workers from the enemy colony back to their nests. I tried to look up info on the internet but I couldn't find anything. I was just wondering if this sort of behaviour was normal? and if so why are they capturing live ants? are they going to consume them or perhaps make them into slaves?
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me what was going on since I'm really curious about this.
Thanks!
