Even though you may get some species from the usa, this forum doesn't personally believe in exchanging ants between states or countries, as it is possible they can pose certain ecologic disasters. But in Europe, certain ants become available because it;s deemed that these species cannot live in your environment even if they were to escape.

Queen ants do not lay eggs all year unless they are tropical or moderately tropical species, Myrmecocystus mimicus are desert ants. She will not lay because winter is approaching. Everyone seems to think queen ants need to lay 24/7.....if you do manage to get her to lay by warming her up it will greatly reduce her life span. Most of us in these forums are in the same boat you are because of the time of year, there are no brood in our colonies and our queens are taking a winter break....every year we go through the same thing, wait until spring when the activities start up again.
